MEMORIAL

The Lord’s Evening Meal was instituted by Jesus on the occasion of the Jewish Passover, and this occurred after sunset. So the Memorial celebration should occur after sundown. If the talk begins before sunset, the passing of the emblems should not occur until after sunset. True Witnesses do not interfere with what others do as to voting in political elections, running for political oﬃce, campaigning for politicians, or joining the military. Jehovah’s Witnesses are neutral with regard to the political and military aﬀairs of the nations.

A baptized Christian who deliberately pursues a course in violation of Christian neutrality removes (disassociates) himself from the congregation of Jehovah’s people.

Christians are no part of the world. They do not take sides in its political aﬀairs. They do not interfere with what other people choose to do in this regard.—John 17:16; Jas. 1:27; 4:4; 1 John 2:15.

Jesus set good examples for his followers by rejecting offers for political oﬃce. Early Chris-tians avoided all political involvement. If invited to express wishes regarding neighborhood improvements, there is no harm in doing so either in writing or by signing a petition, but when political means are used to obtain opinions, it is best to keep in mind principles found in God\’s word.—Matt. 4:8-10; John 6:15; w99 11/1 28-9; w83 3/1 30-1; rs 269-76; g84 9/8 28; li 295-320.

A person carrying a political party membership card does not qualify to share in preaching from house-to-house or to be baptized.—w76 8/15 491; g72 12/8 20.

If to qualify for certain types of employment a person must be registered as eligible to vote, provided he does not indicate any political aﬃliation. This may simply be the community’s way of asking an individual to go on record as a citizen. There are dangers that can under-mine the faith and morality of those who go to schools of higher education. SEGREGATION

Jehovah’s Witnesses believes that God made out of one man every nation of men and that He is not partial. (Acts 10:34; 17:26; g98 2/22 25-7; g93 8/22 3-11; g77 10/8 20-3; w73 9/1 515-18)

They do not try to reform the system, its laws and its strong prejudices regarding race, color, or language. They practice Christian love, with no discrimination. (John 13:23, 35; 15:17; w96 11/15 25-7; g84 11/8 7-11)
